Sales of road bikes nationally have slightly increased by 0.8 percent during the first half of 2015, according to figures released by the Federal Chambers of Automotive Industries (FCAI).

Overall Australians bought 51,578 new motorcycles, ATVs and scooters between January and June 2015, which is 1.3 percent less than sales recorded in the same period last year.

“Honda was the leading volume manufacturer once again, with 24.6 percent of the market,” explained FCAI chief executive Tony Weber. “Honda was followed by Yamaha with 18.6 percent, Kawasaki with 9.9 percent, Suzuki with 9.4 percent and Harley Davidson with 8.9 percent.”

However road bike sales were relatively strong at 21,688, accounting for almost half of the market and holding a 42 percent share with off-road, scooters and ATVs. It is Harley Davidson that has risen to the top of sales at the halfway point of the year.

“Harley Davidson was the top seller in the road motorcycle market, selling 21.1 percent of the 21,688 road motorcycles sold between January and June 2015,” Weber continued. “Harley Davidson was followed closely by Honda, which sold 18.4 percent, Yamaha came in third with 14.1 percent, Kawasaki was fourth with 13.3 percent and BMW was fifth with 7.6 percent.”

The Kawasaki Ninja 300 is once again highest overall seller aside from the Honda CT110X, as is the Honda CBR300R as top supersport and Yamaha’s MT07L in the nakedbike segment. Of the adventure touring models, BMW’s R 1200 GS leads the charts.
