A mixture of weather conditions at Wakefield Park caused havoc in round five of the 2015 Australian FX-Superbike Championship, eventually topped by Team Honda Racing’s Troy Herfoss in his homecoming to Goulburn.

Herfoss led the opening Superbike race on track following a late maneuver on title rival Wayne Maxwell (YRT with YMI), however was soon penalised for passing under yellow flags and docked one position.

That handed Maxwell the win following a race that started wet, began to form a dry line, and then was rained upon again before race’s end. Behind Maxwell and Herfoss came Glenn Allerton (YRT with YMI), Jamie Stauffer (Team Honda Racing) and Matt Walters (Kawasaki Connection).

Race two was essentially a dry affair, albeit without the track in a premium racing condition, and it was Herfoss who controlled the pace to win by 1.910s over Allerton, as Maxwell, Walters and Mike Jones (Australian Outdoor Living – Cube Racing) filled the top five.

The final race encountered the worst conditions of all, starting out dry before a red flag, and then rain caused an extended stoppage.

Once it restarted for a six-lap sprint, it was Herfoss who battled to a 0.359s in wet conditions from Allerton, Maxwell, Stauffer and Jones.

Overall that secured Herfoss the victory and subsequent pole position for Sunday’s Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship round, over Maxwell and Allerton on the podium. Top of the Pro-Am privateers was Walters in fourth.

After finishing fourth in races one and three on Saturday, Stauffer was bumped down the order overall to eighth when his Honda had a problem during race two, causing a non-finish.

It was a disastrous day for Cru Halliday on the third of the factory Yamahas, crashing out of race one on the opening lap and then also out of the third race after clashing with Ben Burke (SA Kawasaki Bcperformance), causing the red flag in the process.

BikeBiz / Ipone / Swann Insurance Racing Kawasaki rider Sean Condon was another casualty, crashing on the warm-up lap of the opening race and not reappearing on track for the remainder of today’s running.

The Supersport class belonged to SA Kawasaki Bcperformance’s Kyle Buckley, by virtue of his race three win this afternoon. Buckley was second in the damp opening race, ninth in the dry second leg, then won race three after the rain came again.

Joining Buckley on the podium for the round was Luke Mitchell (Yamaha) and Queenslander Callum Spriggs (Yamaha), who extended his points lead as a result. Race one this morning was topped by comfortably Brad Swallow (Kawasaki).

The Supersport grid for Sunday is calculated via the fastest lap times posted in today’s trio of races, with Spriggs securing an important pole position from Rick Olson (Kawasaki), Buckley and Thomas Bryden (Yamaha) completing the front row. Title leader Brayden Elliott (Suzuki) will start from 10th.

The weather created an assortment of results in the supporting categories, with series leader Simon Galloway topping Formula Oz, while other winners included Jimmy Broadbent (FX300 Ninja Cup), Jason Martin (Formula Xtreme), Kris Keen (Pro-Twins) and Ian Goodwin (Nakedbike).
