Germany-based international series concludes at Hockenheim.
Team Yamaha MGM’s Damian Cudlin was a non-scorer in his return to the IDM Superbike Championship at Hockenheim in Germany last weekend, after the effects of a race one crash led to an electrical fault in the seconds.
Cudlin made a positive return to racing by qualifying fourth in a supremely competitive field, however two DNFs on Sunday after missing multiple rounds through injury resulted in him finishing eighth in the standings for the season.
“It’s hard to be positive on such a difficult day, but we had a good qualifying, we were quite good in practice and also the start of the first race was quite good,” Cudlin said. “I got a good start, was running in third position early and then Max passed me. I just tried to hold on to him, but I lost the front. It’s a similar crash I had many times this year.
“For race two I was confident that we can try again and unfortunately I think something was damaged from the first crash and we had an electrical problem and it was not possible to finish the race. It’s really sad to end this season like this, but this is racing, it’s hard sometimes. I have to look to next year and hope that we have some more luck.”
Race one was won by 2015 champion Markus Reiterberger and Xavi Forés was victorious in the second. Meanwhile, Gareth Jones made a guest appearance, taking home a pair of seventh placings for the Wilbers BMW team.
