Team Honda Racing set for title defence at MotoGP event

Team Honda Racing press release:

This weekend marks the second year of The Phillip Island Championship to be held in conjunction with the Pramac Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix and #28 Troy Herfoss has his sights on the title.

Having won the inaugural P.I. Championship at last year’s MotoGP event with Josh Hook, Team Honda Racing is looking to Troy Herfoss to secure the title in 2015. The Goulburn-based rider heads into the event as the points leader with 45 points.

The first round of the Phillip Island Championship saw Herfoss competing alongside #27 Jamie Stauffer and #16 Josh Hook. A horrific crash in Superbike Race 1 placed Stauffer in hospital with a broken pelvis and months of recovery.

However, his recent victory at the ASBK Finale at Phillip Island shows that Stauffer is in top form and ready to win races. “I am really looking forward to the MotoGP, it’s is always a fantastic event. I can’t win the Phillip Island Championship after my terrible crash at Round 1 put me out of contention, but I will definitely be out there this weekend giving it my all. The bike set-up is right where it needs to be heading into the event and the Pirelli tyres are working really well. It will be a great weekend.”

Although Hook is placed second on the leaderboard in the P.I. Championship going into this weekend’s MotoGP event, he will not be competing onboard a Superbike. Hook finds himself moving into the world of Moto2, filling in for the injured Dominique Aegerter in the Technomag Racing Interwetten team.

The Phillip Island Championship leader heading into the MotoGP event, Troy Herfoss is keen to take home the trophy for Honda on Sunday. “The team has worked really hard in the lead up to this event and having raced recently at the Island for the ASBK finale, I feel positive about the weekend ahead. Practice tomorrow will give us a clear direction, but based on the recent event here I feel the CBR1000RR SP will be racing at the front of the field. That is certainly my plan.”
