Sydney’s Sean Condon has officially withdrawn from the final two rounds of the 2015 Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship, including this weekend’s event at Winton Motor Raceway and the final at Sydney Motorsport Park in December.

Condon’s focus has now turned to further shoulder surgery and an extensive recovery and recuperation in order to return to the top of his game in superbike at a national level in 2016.

“In any sport, as an athlete, we have highs and lows,” Condon said. “This year I have had many highs that include winning a few races and competing at the highest level in Australia. I have also unfortunately endured many lows as well. I have put my body on the line on many occasions that have resulted in numerous surgeries this year.

“This has held me back from competing each round to the best of my abilities. As a result, I have decided to take the rest of the year off and commit my focus to surgery, recovery and subsequent preparation for next year.”

Reflecting on the 2015 season, Condon said it has been enjoyable, in particular focusing on his victories and podiums and he aligns a lot of that success with the ongoing personal support received both track side and between events.

“I love the challenge that motorcycle racing brings me and I look forward to taking some time to recover and focus on next year and come out swinging,” he added. “I would firstly like to take this opportunity to thank my parents, Peter and Kelly Condon.

“In addition the support of my crew, Frank Pons (Biketek), Ben Hollier (head team mechanic) and Graeme Macmillan (team mechanic), for taking the time out of their busy schedule to assist and support me with my racing career – they have been amazing.

“My sponsors – Bikebiz Motorcycles, Swann Insurance, Kawasaki Australia, GB Racing, Ipone, Ixon, Shark Helmets, Biketek and Falco Boots – have provided me with the opportunity to be able to make my dreams come true to compete which I am very grateful for.”

Condon remains determined and confident to return to the premier category of road racing in Australia in the 2016 season, admitting the opportunity to race at the top level wouldn’t be possible without the ongoing support of his above mentioned sponsors.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to rest and recover so I can compete again at my full potential and to provide my sponsors, family, friends and fans with my best performance,” Condon concluded.
