Australasian Superbike Championship down to the wire

Team Honda Racing press release:

An action packed penultimate round of the Australasian Superbike Championship places Team Honda Racing’s Troy Herfoss on equal points with Wayne Maxwell heading into the Finale in Sydney in December.

#3 Troy Herfoss and #2 Jamie Stauffer took the Honda CBR1000RR SP to its limit at Winton International Raceway, battling it out at the front of an extremely competitive field.

Both Honda riders recorded competitive lap times throughout the weekend, steadily improving with each session. Herfoss started the 3 Swann Insurance Superbike races yesterday from P2 on the grid and got off the start line well.

Finishing 3rd overall for the Round, Herfoss was consistently fighting for the win throughout the day although a small mistake in Race 1 saw him drop position in the latter stages of the race to finish 5th.

The 2 remaining races of the day showed the strength of the Honda in the battles that ensued. Herfoss finished Races 2 and 3 in 2nd place and departed Round 6 with renewed determination, saying “It was a tough weekend at Winton Raceway. I came away 3rd overall for the event and we head into the final round at Sydney Motorsport Park on equal points.

It really is down to the wire and I know we can win the championship. I would like to thank the team once more for their tireless work. It is definitely going to be a huge event to finish the season and I look forward to the final battle for the title.”

#2 Jamie Stauffer moves into the final round of the season in 6th place after a frustrating weekend at Winton Raceway, saying “I finished 5th overall for the event this weekend which is not what I expected. We made good progress from Friday through to racing on Sunday, but I couldn’t quite convert it into a podium finish.

I struggled a bit to get out of the corners as quickly as I needed to in order to make a pass and at a circuit like Winton it can make all the difference. The team worked really hard and I would like to thank them. I know there will be a bit of work and planning done between now and December to come out strong for the final event to make sure we are racing at the front to end the season. I look forward to what is certain to be a huge battle at Sydney Motorsport Park.”

Team Honda Racing will take to the track for the final event of the 2015 Superbike season on the 4th – 6th December at Sydney Motorsport Park in what is set to be a thrilling battle for the 2015 Australasian Superbike Championship title.
