Highs and lows from the sixth round of the season.
CycleOnline.com.au pulls out the microscope and takes a closer look at some of the giant-killers and disappointments from the sixth round of the 2015 Australasian Superbikes at Winton Motor Raceway.
Hit
Wayne Maxwell: Six wins from six starts over the weekend was impressive for the current number one plate holder, doing so in a measured and controlled approach that has set him up for a clear run at the titles in Sydney.
Callum Spriggs: Young Queensland talent Spriggs has really come on strong at the business end of the season and his consistent run at Winton showed. He enters the final Supersport round a point behind Brayden Elliott in the Sunday title race after making ground last weekend.
Michael Blair: Title leader Elliott denied Blair a clean-sweep on Sunday in race three, but following two wins to start the day a third in race three was enough to secure the latter the overall. Blair is another coming into his own as the season progresses.
Miss
Jamie Stauffer: Team Honda Racing’s veteran wasn’t ever really right in the mix at Winton last weekend, which was a surprise considering his previous strengths at the circuit. On paper his results were relatively good, however teammate Herfoss was on another level Sunday in comparison.
Mike Jones: The new Australian Superbike and Phillip Island champion wasn’t off-pace or anything of the sort at Winton, however a costly crash in race two bumped him down the order overall and enabled Honda’s Stauffer to inch closer to him for fifth in the standings – just six points separating the pair.
