Australian Jed Metcher has put pen to paper to contest the 2016 German IDM Superbike Championship, signing a one-year deal including a second-year option with Team Wilbers BMW Racing.

Metcher, 25, this year rode for the Race Center team as a wildcard rider at the opening round of the World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island, before departing the country to contest the British Superbike Championship (BSB) for PR Racing Kawasaki.

However, after a somewhat difficult start Metcher’s debut season he made the decision to make the switch to Gearlink Kawasaki from round eight onwards. The 2011 Superstock 600 FIM Cup Champion was unable to compete in the final round at Brands Hatch due to unforeseen circumstances.

For 2016 Metcher will return to the German IDM series, which was the series that he made his international racing debut in 2010 with RT Motorsport.

“I’m very excited and very grateful for this opportunity that Wilbers BMW Racing have given me,” Metcher told CycleOnline.com.au this morning. “To be able to race for a factory BMW team is simply amazing and I can’t wait to knuckle down into testing then go racing.”

Wilbers BMW Racing team has an important development role and influence the progression of state of the art technology that is released each year on the S 1000 RR and many other BMW models.

Metcher’s first test with the Nordhorn-based team aboard the BMW S 1000 RR will either be at Almeria or Valencia, but nothing is locked in place at this certain time.
