BMW Motorrad has taken the wraps off an electric-powered superbike utilising a S 1000 RR chassis during the world premiere of its G 310 R model overnight in Europe.

The concept electric supersport model is titled ‘eRR’ and was created as a project with the Technical University of Munich for experimental purposes, however there’s no intention to release the bike on the market as it stands.

“If acceleration, handling or top speed, the RR is setting standards,” said head of BMW Motorrad, Stephan Schaller. “However, if acceleration on the first metres, up to 50-60km/h, is the point, the RR’s 199hp has to admit defeat by another BMW product – the C evolution with its electric drive.

“We asked ourselves ‘what happens when combining a sport motorcycle and an electric drive?’. The experimental vehicle eRR brings the topic zero emission and electric drive on a new, more fascinating level.”

Further information on BMW Motorrad’s plans and technical details on the eRR concept is anticipated to be released by the German manufacturer at a later date.
