Nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi has withdrawn his appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), filed after he was imposed three penalty points following his dramatic clash with Marc Marquez at Malaysia’s penultimate MotoGP round.

Rossi had appealed against the FIM Stewards’ decision, seeking the annulment of the penalty or at least a reduction from three points to one. If successful prior to Valencia’s final round, he wouldn’t have started at the rear of the grid.

However Rossi’s stay of execution request was denied prior to the race, ultimately resulting in Movistar Yamaha teammate Jorge Lorenzo taking out his third MotoGP World Championship victory. Rossi has now formally dropped his appeal altogether and the arbitration procedure has been terminated.
