Production class pace-setter Brandon Demmery will contest the Over 300 Production category of the 2016 Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK), riding a Yamaha YZF-R3.

Former Australian 250 Production and Australasian FX300 Ninja Cup title winner Demmery raced an R25 in the Asia Road Racing Championship last year and will apply that knowledge to the 321cc locally this season.

“In 2015 I raced the Yamaha R25 in the Asian Road Racing Championship,” he explained. “The R3 is essentially the same machine with a slightly larger capacity and I hope that the knowledge I gained in Asia will allow me to run at the front in the Australian Championship in 2016.

“I didn’t really have a great year in the Asian championship in 2015. I had a lot to contend with – we had new tracks, new team, heat and humidity, a language barrier and also a new bike. I was not happy with my results. I have unfinished business over there and hope that by riding a bike that is closer in specification to the Asian bikes, I can again secure a seat in the ARRC to show what I am really capable of.”

Demmery raced a YZF-R6 in the 2015 Australasian Supersport Championship, but has no set plans to continue in Supersport fulltime this coming season: “I do intend doing some events in Australia on the R6 if possible.

“My R6 is currently being converted to a World Supersport-spec bike that Anthony West will ride at Phillip Island at the end of February. My team will be assisting him through our joint sponsor Green Tea X50. I believe the experience will be invaluable to me and I hope to learn a lot watching how Ant operates.”
