Cube Racing takes aim in ASBK Supersport at Wakefield Park

Cube Racing press release:

Cube Racing will enter this weekend’s second round of the 2016 Australian Superbike Championship at Wakefield Park in New South Wales with its intentions firmly placed on taking victory in the hard-fought Australian Supersport category.

Team newcomer Callum Spriggs rode to the runner-up position at Phillip Island’s season opener last month, which puts him in a strong second placing in the standings entering round two. As for rookie Supersport teammate Robbie Menzies, he experienced an inconsistent, but promising, first round and sits 15th.

“I would really like to see Spriggs take the win this weekend,” Cube Racing team owner and manager Ben Henry explained. “I really believe he can, he just needs to gel with the bike some more and come to terms with it in this early stage of the season. Once he finds his feet, as long as he can do it early in the weekend, I’m sure he will be in for a win.

“With Menzies, he has a lot of potential and once he gains that initial experience, he’s going to be very handy. It’s just a matter of gaining consistency at this point, staying on the bike for the weekend, and he will really gain strength.”

The team will also introduce local Goulburn racer Tom Toparis to ASBK competition, contesting the Production category alongside Spriggs and Menzies within the Cube Racing team at Wakefield Park. It will be an interesting side project for the team in the popular development division.

“Tom has been granted a licence and I’m really excited,” Henry added. “I’ve given him a bike to run and I’m excited to see how he goes – he’s a major Troy Herfoss fan from Goulburn, running the number 17 and it will be great to introduce him to road racing in the Production class. He’s young, he’s keen and I think he will be really good to watch.”

Wakefield Park’s second round of the 2016 ASBK season will take place in Goulburn, New South Wales, this Easter long weekend, 25-27 March. Further event information can be found on the official series website at www.asbk.com.au.
