Maxwell leads mixed ASBK morning session at Wakefield

Yamaha Racing Team’s Wayne Maxwell was fastest in the opening practice session this morning at round two of the 2016 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli.

Former ASBK champion Maxwell posted a 1m02.617s at Wakefield Park in five cautious laps, the session staged in damp, but drying conditions on the YZF-R1M.

Second was New Zealand champion Sloan Frost on the Next Gen Motorsports Suzuki, 0.120s in arrears after posting nine laps, while title leader Glenn Allerton (Yamaha Racing Team) was third at 1m04.439s.

JD Racing Yamaha privateer Daniel Falzon was fourth, also completing only five laps, while Jason Ivkovic (Ivko Racing Suzuki) completed the top five.

Of the remaining factory riders YRT’s Cru Halliday was 10th after two laps, Mike Jones (DesmoSport Ducati) 12th in three laps and Anthony West 13th after a single out lap on debut with the Crankt Protein Honda Racing squad.
