Consistent ASBK weekend for Cube Racing at Wakefield Park

Cube Racing press release:

Cube Racing team riders Callum Spriggs and Robbie Menzies scored a strong haul of championship points in round two of the 2016 Australian Supersport Championship at Wakefield Park on Sunday.

Title challenger Spriggs charged to a pair of top five finishes at the Goulburn venue, claiming fourth overall for the round. He was a fighting fourth in race one and fifth in the second, displaying competitive lap speed in the process.

Cube Racing teammate and Supersport class newcomer Robbie Menzies also finished with a pair of points-paying positions, claiming ninth in race one and 11th in the second for 10th overall.

“It wasn’t a terrible weekend, but we just need to see the pair of them improve in the starts a little bit to help get the results easier,” team owner and manager Ben Henry reflected. “Callum’s lap speed from half race distance was really good, so once he can really come to grips and improve upon the opening laps he will be fine.

“For Robbie it was another case of learning, learning, learning and he’s coming along well. His qualifying time was particularly good, so with more riding on the Supersport bike and consistent weekends like this, it will really raise his confidence in these early stages of his career on the bigger bikes.”

Cube Racing also fielded Goulburn debutant Tom Toparis in the Up To 300cc Production category across the Wakefield Park weekend, finishing a promising fifth in class during races one and two before a non-finish in the third. He was 10th overall.

Two rounds into the six-round season, Spriggs is now fourth in the Supersport championship standings and Menzies 11th. The series will resume at Sydney Motorsport Park on 16-17 April.
