Cycle 360

An all-access Australian view of road racing, presented by Alpinestars.

Coming off a dramatic weekend of racing last weekend in Argentina, MotoGP heads direct to Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, for round three of the 2016 season. Again, it’s shaping up to be all action on Sunday race day and in the early running, Marc Marquez is looking on point again.

But as though the race weekend wasn’t crazy enough, teams have had all kinds of difficulties just getting to the United States for the round this weekend, following chaos at the airports in Argentina – including Australia’s very own Jack Miller and team. Life of a MotoGP racer, right!?

Things are definitely looking up for Miller in the premier class though and you get a feeling it’s only a matter of time before he’s consistently inside the top 10 and knocking on the door of top fives. From that point, a first podium if things go his way wouldn’t be out of the question. Unfortunately a crash this morning in FP1 could derail his hopes this weekend, but he’s coming.

And while MotoGP stole the headlines last weekend, WorldSBK took another turn with Ducati’s Chas Davies taking a double win at MotorLand Aragon. It was a tougher weekend for the Aussies again, including the unfortunate broken leg of Glenn Scott in World Supersport.

I personally didn’t get to witness much of last weekend’s road racing at all since I was on location at Horsham’s MX Nationals opener for MotoOnline.com.au and Foremost Media, so it’ll be good to set some spare time aside this weekend and catch up on all the action.

Along with that, of course we will be closely following the opening round of the Endurance World Championship at Le Mans, round one of the British Superbike Championship at Silverstone and MotoAmerica alongside MotoGP at COTA. There’s a good assortment of Aussies in all of them.

On top of all that, Motorcycling Australia confirmed that 7mate will feature the Australian Superbike Championship at Wakefield Park from 12:30pm today, which will be good to tune into as well. One thing’s for sure, we’re not lacking access to any motorcycle racing in this country these days.

And looking ahead to next weekend, it’s set to be another epic one, albeit a busy one. The ASBK continues for round three (the halfway point already) at Sydney Motorsport Park, on exact same weekend as the MX Nationals second round. Logistically, it’s the most challenging weekend of the entire year for us.

But that’s enough from me for this week, time to attempt to wind down where we can, recharge the batteries somewhat and get back into it all over again at full throttle by Monday. We wouldn’t change a thing!
