IodaRacing Team Aprilia WorldSBK rookie Lorenzo Savadori was the quickest rider in the first two sessions at Sepang International Circuit on Friday.

The Italian rider put in a last lap dash to go quickest ahead of Honda rider Nicky Hayden, who was quick throughout today’s running.

However it was WorldSBK debutant Anthony West who stunned onlookers, transfering direct to Superpole 2 after securing the place as top Kawasaki in ninth and just 0.792s off the front.

Pedercini Kawasaki-mounted West took to WorldSBK like the grand prix veteran he is, quickly acclimatising to the ZX-10R and edging out factory duo Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes.

Markus Reiterberger was another quick rookie on day one, the Althea BMW rider coming home in P3 ahead of Yamaha’s Alex Lowes. Aruba.it Racing – Ducati rider Davide Giugliano was the fastest Ducati in fifth.

Rea, who was second fastest in the morning, just made it through to Superpole 2 in P10, edging out teammate Sykes for the last place in the top 10.

Sykes, who had been fastest in the morning, is the big name sent through Superpole 1, despite his terrific track record at Sepang in qualifying during his career.

Of the remaining Aussies, reigning BSB champion Josh Brookes (Milwaukee BMW) ended the session in 17th overall, while countryman Josh Hook (Grillini Kawasaki) was directly behind him in position 18.

In World Supersport it was American PJ Jacobsen (Honda) who led the way, from world champion Kenan Sofuoglu (Kawasaki) and Jules Cluzel (MV Agusta). Australians Aiden Wagner (GRT Racing Team MV Agusta) and Lachlan Epis (Response RE Kawasaki) were 21st and 22nd.
