Burke and Bugden share FX-ASC spoils at Mallala

Dunlop Tyres press release:

Dunlop’s control-specification tyres withstood all kinds of challenges at Mallala Motorsport Park’s second round of the 2016 Australasian Superbike Championship (ASC) and Australian FX-Superbike Championship (AFX-SBK) in South Australia.

The premier Superbike category was dominated by SA Kawasaki BCperformance teammates Ben Burke and Robbie Bugden. Burke won all three ASC races on Sunday, as Bugden did in the AFX-SBK series a day prior on Saturday.

All riders in the field compete aboard the selection of Dunlop control tyres in the Superbike, Supersport and Pro-Twins/Nakedbike categories, while the brand is also highly popular in the remaining support ranks.

With weather affecting the opening part of the weekend, before all was clear for the hard-fought six races per class, it was Burke who won big on Sunday with the ASC overall from Bugden and Kawasaki Connection’s Matt Walters. Burke now leads the standings by three over opening round winner Walters.

On Saturday it was Bugden who proved unbeatable on Saturday in AFX-SBK despite limited dry track time on the Friday, winning ahead of Burke and Walters. They are positioned in that order in the point-standings as well.

The Dunlop slick-shod Supersport division was won by SA Kawasaki BCperformance’s Kyle Buckley on both days ahead of Mitch Levy. Rounding out the rostrum Saturday was Jordan Carlsson, while Sunday saw Sam Muldoon third overall.

Beau Beaton topped the Pro-Twins/Nakedbikes class, while other Dunlop-equipped winners for the round at Mallala included local Evan Byles in Formula Oz after edging out Simon Galloway, as well as Jimmy Broadbent in the FX300 Ninja Cup category.

“Despite the poor conditions we witnessed some fantastic racing over the two days,” explained Dunlop national motorcycle tyre manager Sabastian Mincone. “Extremely low track temps, plus a dirty and inconstant track surface, from Friday’s downpour created challenges for all riders.

“However the new Dunlop control tyres coped incredibly well. Many Superbike and Supersport riders managed to complete the weekends racing without using their full allocation of tyres due to the durability of the new KR133 rear control tyre.

“Dunlop tyres also had excellent results in the non-control classes of Formula Oz and the Ninja Cup. Evan Byles and Simon Galloway dominated the Formula Oz class using Dunlop tyres, while rookie Jimmy Broadbent was the overall winner in Sunday’s Ninja Cup series using the new A-13SP. My congratulations to all riders who gained podiums over the weekend.”

Round three of the 2016 Australasian Superbike Championship and Australian FX-Superbike Championship will take place at Queensland Raceway on 8-10 July.
