Allerton sets Friday ASBK pace at Barbagallo Raceway

Yamaha Racing Team’s Glenn Allerton has set the early pace at Barbagallo Raceway’s fourth round of the 2016 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli on Friday.

Current title leader Allerton posted a 55.573s laptime in cool conditions during the third and final session of the afternoon, just under a tenth quicker than teammate Wayne Maxwell.

The time of Allerton was just outside his own race lap record of 55.533s from 2011, setting up for a rapid weekend of competition at Wanneroo.

Third fastest was Mike Jones on the DesmoSport Ducati at 55.810s from session two, while Ben Burke (SA Kawasaki BCperformance) had a strong showing in fourth. The top five was rounded out by Troy Herfoss (Crankt Protein Honda Racing).

The top 10 was completed by Daniel Falzon (JD Racing Yamaha), Cru Halliday (Yamaha Racing Team) in his first visit to the venue, Matt Walters (Kawasaki Connection), Brayden Elliott (Suzuki) and Sloan Frost (Next Gen Motorsports Suzuki).

Notable rider outside behind them was Jamie Stauffer (Crankt Protein Honda Racing) in 11th, unable to improve on his 56.927s set in the opening session this morning.

Local favourite Sam Clarke (Kawasaki) topped the Supersport class on combined times following three sessions today, his 57.634s from session two over half a second ahead of Troy Guenther (Yamaha) and Luke Mitchell (Yamaha).

Queenslander Callum Spriggs (Kawasaki) was the final rider within a second of Clarke’s time in fourth position, while Chris Quinn (Yamaha) completed the top five.

The 19-rider Moto3/125GP field was led by Brian Houghton (Honda) at 1m03.005s, while Western Australian 125-mounted Scott Pettit (Honda) was second and David Doughty (Honda) third.

Yamaha R3-equipped duo Callum Alderson and Brendon Demmery were 1-2 in the packed 30-rider Production field, Alderson’s 1m06.902s comfortably quicker than Demmery and Reid Battye (Kawasaki) in third – first of the 300 entries.
