Dunlop Tyres press release:
Yamaha Racing Team’s Wayne Maxwell made it back-to-back Australian Superbike Championship round victories for Dunlop at the Barbagallo Raceway round in Western Australia over the weekend.
Maxwell’s second overall win in a row came as a result of finishing second in the opening 20-lap encounter, before improving to take a commanding first position in race two. The result sees him climb atop the 2016 standings.
“The Dunlop tyres were flawless at Barbagallo Raceway and to have the race pace that we did at the end of the gruelling 20 laps, I was actually shocked myself,” Maxwell said. “The grip level of the tyres was consistent, we were able to win the overall and take the title lead, so it’s a massive credit to Dunlop.”
Joining Maxwell on the podium once again was Yamaha teammate Glenn Allerton, finishing third overall via 3-2 finishes. Allerton’s now second in the championship, five points in arrears of Maxwell.
It was also a strong weekend for JD Racing Yamaha-mounted privateer Daniel Falzon, taking out fourth overall for the round and claiming a new lap record of 55.446s in race one. The previous benchmark was set by Allerton at 55.533s in 2011.
Third of the factory R1s was Cru Halliday in sixth overall during his first visit to Wanneroo, joined in the top 10 by fellow Dunlop-equipped racer Ben Burke (SA Kawasaki BCperformance), who finished seventh.
Dunlop riders experienced success across all the championship categories in WA, as Luke Mitchell (Yamaha) was runner-up in Supersport, Ben Leonard (Honda) victorious in Moto3/125GP and Brandon Demmery (Yamaha) on top in Production.
“ASBK round four at Barbagallo was another successful weekend for Dunlop tyres,” commented Sabastian Mincone, Dunlop national motorcycle manager. “Wayne’s overall win and Glenn’s third allowed us to increase our lead in the Superbike class points tally. And Daniel Falzon’s new race lap record that was set in race one was another fantastic result for Dunlop in the SB class.
“Our results in the other classes were also positive, with Ben Leonard using Dunlop tyres winning the Moto3 class and Brandon Demmery using Dunlop’s new A-13SP to win the Production class. Also, I would like to make a special mention of Luke Mitchell, whose huge efforts gave him second place overall in the Supersport class against other top-level competition.”
The fifth round of the 2016 Australian Superbike Championship will take place on 5-7 August at Morgan Park in Queensland, marking the penultimate round of this year’s series.
