A proposed ‘Tourist Trophy’ road race has made headlines in Queensland this week, with a private promoter looking to launch a ‘Sunshine Coast International TT’ as soon as 2017.

With the famed Isle of Man TT currently taking place overseas, news of the Sunshine Coast event targeted for Maleny has quickly spread over the past 24 hours.

“A promoter has actually approach council, with an event called the Sunshine Coast International TT,” Sunshine Coast council representative Greg Rogerson told WIN News. “Safety is a prime concern and as least amount of inconvenience we can for the general public.”

The event’s proposed to run over three days in December 2017, across 47 kilometres of local roads, including over 400 corners. It’s estimated it would inject $8.5-million into the local economy.

According to the WIN News report, which has gone viral on social media since its release and is viewable below, community meetings will be held next week on 14-15 June at Maleny State High School.
