The fresh new Yamaha R3 Cup will be back on the agenda at next month’s Morgan Park round of the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli in Queensland on 5-7 August.

With rounds one and two a success at Wakefield Park and Sydney Motorsport Park, the R3 Cup didn’t travel to Barbagallo Raceway in Western Australia, however the series will resume at the twisty Morgan Park circuit on ASBK weekend.

Sydney victor Callum Alderson (YRD /Sign Pro/Jobbox/Dainese/SPeedAngle/Arai) currently leads the championship standings two rounds in, three points ahead of round one winner Zac Levy (Puma RV’s Motorsport Team/North Star Yamaha/Kabuto Helmets), while Hunter Ford (Ford Brothers Racing/Port Performance/Bell Helmets) completes the top three.

Supplementary regulations are also open for round four of the R3 Cup to be contested alongside the Victorian Road Racing Championship (VRRC) at Phillip Island on 27-28 August, available to download here.

Yamaha Racing Team will be hosting a private test directly prior at Winton Motor Raceway on 23-24 August, which is free of charge for Yamaha Racing Developments (YRD) or R3 Cup competitors. Those able to attend should contact YRT via [email protected] to confirm your place.

The R3 Cup is a single-model series introduced by Yamaha Motor Australia in conjunction with YRD to introduce newcomers to the sport. The aim is to offer affordable race bikes and level playing field competition so the emphasis is on race-craft.

For example, entrants are able to purchase a bike and race kit package for a subsidised rate of $7900 inc GST, otherwise YRD sells kits to riders who already own an R3 for a subsidised price of
$3630 inc GST. Entry-level riders competing in at least four rounds of the 2016 R3 Cup are set to win prize packages valued at over $42,000. Follow the YMF R3 Cup on Facebook for more.
