Australian Superbike Championship title leader Wayne Maxwell has backed Morgan Park as a round on the 2016 calendar and says it should remain in the seasons to come.

The 2013 ASBK champion had his first taste of the Warwick-based circuit last month during the pre-race test, satisfied that it deserves to be a fixture on the schedule – especially if rumoured upgrades are carried out.

Morgan Park was added to the ASBK calendar for the first time last season, however this weekend’s penultimate round of the 2016 season marks the first time Yamaha and Honda’s full factory teams have been in attendance.

“The layout and the facilities of Morgan Park, there’s no dramas with that, and it’s great to have the open pit style,” Maxwell explained. “It offers great interaction with the fans, similar to WA.

“The more race tracks we’ve got, the better it is, and obviously Queensland Raceway is a good circuit and great facility. Unfortunately the layout is just a paperclip, whereas Morgan Park’s a great layout.

“Apart from the bumps – or jumps – down the back straight, the rest of the circuit is quite good and it looks like they’ve got plans in place to eliminate those [bumps] in the near future.”

Morgan Park will host round five of the 2016 ASBK series this weekend, 5-7 August, with Maxwell leading the standings, five points ahead of Yamaha Racing Team teammate Glenn Allerton and a further 13 in front of Crankt Protein Honda’s Troy Herfoss.
