Herfoss and Honda claim Superpole and two race wins with Pirelli Diablo Superbike at ASBK Morgan Park

Link International press release:

Round 5 of the Australian Superbike Championship has been completed with impressive results for Pirelli riders across all major categories.

Superbike
The Superbike class saw the homologation of one new rear solution in the Diablo Superbike range for all riders who chose to race with Pirelli at Morgan Park. The 200/60-17 SCX (V0377) tyre directly from the World Superbike championship as a development SC0 solution was added to the range of Diablo Superbike rear solutions compounds for round 5 and available to all riders.

It proved a successful addition and was popular, as was the SC1 and SC0 rear tyres that have been used successfully at previous rounds. The SC1 rear in particular proved popular with privateers on the bumpier layout of Morgan Park and showed its versatility across broad range of conditions, including the cooler morning temperatures encountered.

With Pirelli riders filling more than half of the placings in the field, Troy Herfoss and Mike Jones (Desmosport Ducati) lead the way in qualifying with the fastest times for Pirelli riders.

Come Superpole and it was Troy Herfoss (Crankt Team Honda Racing) who recorded a new outright Superbike circuit record of 1.13.8 using Pirelli Diablo Superbike SCX (1699) front and 200/60-17 SCX (V0377) rear. With limited time on the bike Jones still brought his Desmosport Ducati into 3rd place in the Pirelli Superpole.

Race 1 on Sunday saw a big crowd trackside witness a dominant Troy Herfoss, using the same tyre combination used for Superpole to take the lead from early on, gap his rivals and dominate the 19 lap race distance. Along the way he recorded a new race lap record as well, a 1.14.48.

Race 2 and it was the Herfoss out front again, displaying the combination of the Honda CBR1000RR SP and Pirelli to the utmost, and again lowering the race lap record with a 1.14.30 to take the race 2 win and the round victory.

Other notable performances in the overall results for Pirelli riders were Jamie Stauffer 5th, Brayden Elliot 6th and New Zealand Champion Sloan Frost in 6th place. Pirelli technicians worked with riders throughout the class, with many riders new to the circuit and experiencing this challenging layout for the first time achieving positive results.

Supersport
In the Supersport class the Diablo Supercorsa proved to be the tyre of choice for most riders. Sam Clarke led the way for #teampirelli in race 1, finishing 2nd, while Callum Spriggs recorded the fastest lap of the race with a 1.16.82.

Race two saw local Privateer rider Troy Guenther take the race win using Diablo Supercorsa SC1 120/70ZR-17 front and 180/60ZR-17 SC1 rear, with Sam Clarke again second and Lachlan Epis third in a return from his racing in the World Supersport championship. Clarke recorded the fastest lap of race 2 with a 1.16.73. Sam Clarke leads the Supersport class with Troy Guenther in 2nd with one round remaining.

R3 Cup
Callum Alderson continued on his winning ways ahead of many successful Pirelli riders this weekend in the R3 Cup class. The Diablo Supercorsa SC1 110/70ZR-17 front and 140/70ZR-17 rear have proved their race winning performance and weekend long durability across R3 Cup and Production classes so far this year.

Alderson recorded the inaugural race lap record for the class of 1.2658 in race 1 and the round win ahead of fellow Pirelli riders Hunter Ford and Jack Passfield, with race 2 and 3 winner Zac Levey in 4th.

Production
The Production classes saw race lap records also tumble to the Diablo Supercorsa riders in the field. In over 300 Production Callum Alderson took the round win and all three race wins in a dominant display.

In the Up to 300 Production class it was a clean sweep of race wins to Cube Racings Tom Toparis, who also produced a new race lap record of 1.26.27 The series now heads to the final round at Winton Raceway.
