KTM MotoGP Factory Racing have conducted further testing on their RC16 at Motorland Aragon in Spain last week.

The test saw KTM make advancements in their development of the bike, with test riders Mika Kallio and Randy de Puniet turning over 470 laps in three days.

“We were able to really achieve great progress,” Kallio explained following the test. “This brings us to a good level for the wild card race in Valencia, although we also have to really set ourselves realistic goals because we mustn’t forget that the bike is still fairly new.”

Despite grip levels being significantly low at the Aragon circuit, the team and riders were able to extract a positive setup from the test that allowed for greater traction at the rear wheel.

“Unfortunately the grip levels remained on a very low level from the start to the finish, we were still able to continue working on most things on the test program and in the end, we found a new setup for more traction in the back wheel, which again gave me more confidence,” Kallio continued.

Assisting with the test, Randy de Puniet spoke of his lack of seat-time leading into the Aragon test, and also confirmed he will continue developing bike ahead of the RC16’s wild card entry at the Valencia Grand Prix.

“After about three months it was good to be back on the bike and we had long days and tested many things,” said de Puniet. “I will also be at the final test in Valencia where I will help the team and Mika prepare to be on the start for the wild card race in the best way possible.”

The KTM MotoGP Factory Racing Team will undertake further wind tunnel testing in Cologne prior to their next test in Brno, Czech Republic, in three weeks time.
