Queenslander Aiden Wagner has departed the GRT Racing Team, which he had contested the opening part of the 2016 World Supersport Championship season with aboard MV Agusta machinery.

The highly-rated Wagner, 22, is currently ranked 22nd in the championship standings with eight points to his credit following eight rounds. His best finish of 10th came at Phillip Island’s opener.

“Unfortunately I wont be continuing in World Supersport with GRT Racing Team,” Wagner confirmed. “At the German test we decided on a mutual agreement to no longer continue together. It was a hard decision for myself, but will work now to secure a seat hopefully in the FIM STK1000 class for 2017.

“So until then I will be training motocross flat out until someone can give me a ride. Its a long road, but I wont quit. I would like to thank all my sponsors who have backed me this season I will make you guys proud.”

Wagner won the 2014 Australasian Supersport Championship before contesting a mixture of domestic and international races last year, leading to his fulltime World Supersport berth this season with the GRT Racing Team.
