Latest 2017 model superbikes unleashed at Intermot

New Hondas, Suzukis and limited edition Kawasaki break cover.

The Intermot show in Cologne, Germany, saw a host of new-generation superbikes unveiled overnight, including the latest litre-bike entries from Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki.

Honda released two new variants of the highly-anticipated 2017 CBR1000RR SP, as it was joined by an up-spec CBR1000RR SP2 upon unveil from Nicky Hayden and Freddy Foray.

We have been waiting a few years for the release of Honda’s new CBR1000RR and the new superbike revealed is vastly improved in terms of technological innovation and styling.

With 90 percent of the components reviewed and redesigned, the engine boasts an extra 8kW through new pistons, valve lift and timing.

The bike is a total of 15kg lighter, which in turn has made the power-to-weight ratio 14 percent better.

It features a comprehensive electronics suite that has come from RC213V-S MotoGP street bike and includes power, torque and engine braking control, quickshift, torque control and Ohlins semi-active suspension.

This the 25th anniversary model of the Fireblade will come as an SP and SP2. The SP2 will run lightweight Marchesini wheels and the cylinder head will have a different design, so it is ready for production racing.

Suzuki also confirmed its final version of the new for 2017 GSX-R1000, alongside an up-spec GSX-R1000R option.

First displayed nearly one year ago, the 2017 GSX-R concept model has become the 2017 GSX-R1000 with an R model now joining the ranks.

Both GSX-R1000s have received near on 600 new parts and components with the four-cylinder 1000cc engine pumping out 149kW of power and 118Nm of torque.

The engine is fuelled by a ride-by-wire system with variable valve timing in the heads, six-axis IMU, 10-level traction control and three engine modes.

Much of the chassis details are the same with the key difference Showa Balance Free Forks (BFF), Balance Free Lite rear shock, quick shifter, launch control, LED daytime running lights and lightweight battery on the R model.

Meanwhile, world champion Kawasaki has unveiled a new low-volume, top-spec ZX-10RR at the high profile German launch event.

Unveiled by Kawasaki motorcycle president Kenji Tomida, the ZX-10RR will see a maximum of 500 units produced for Europe, with Australian numbers yet to be confirmed.

With a modified cylinder head ready to accept racing camshafts, a new, more durable crankcase arrangement and the kit part accessory option of adjustable headstock and swingarm pivot point, the package is finished off with Marchesini lightweight forged aluminium wheels, Brembo M50 calipers and up-and-down electronic quick-shifter.
