Rated: MotoGP's fly-away sector

Why we enjoy the consecutive weeks of racing in October.

With the 2016 MotoGP World Championship going ‘on the road’ for the next three rounds in Japan, Australia and Malaysia, CycleOnline.com.au rates some of the more interesting aspects of the series competing outside of Europe from an Aussie perspective.

Aspect: Three-straight races
Rating: 100 percent
Reason: Who doesn’t want to kick back for three Sundays in a row and witness MotoGP racing at its finest. And these three grands prix typically produce some of the most intriguing racing all year on three technically-varying tracks.

Aspect: Phillip Island fever
Rating: 100 percent
Reason: Regarded as the best circuit in the world by many, the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island is usually a favourite for all. Whether you’re a series insider coming over from Europe or a local Aussie fan of the sport, it’s a memorable weekend to be a part of.

Aspect: Daytime viewing
Rating: 80 percent
Reason: We’re fortunate here in Australia to be able to watch MotoGP race days in prime-time when rounds are held in Europe, however it’s also tops to watch these few rounds of an afternoon. For the most part you can’t beat Sunday nights, however having these three races during the day is ideal as the weather warms and BBQ season fires up.

Aspect: Aussie wildcards
Rating: 65 percent
Reason: It’s never an easy task for Australians to line up on the world stage, but we’ve seen some notable performances throughout the years. Bike performance is usually well-down on those of the championship regulars, however those that do take part pick up a lot of valuable lessons in the process.

Aspect: Travel opportunity
Rating: 40 percent
Reason: Although reasonably unlikely, the opportunity for Australians to actually go ahead and experience three grand prix races in three different countries is a good one this month. From the cultures of Motegi, to the comforts of home at Phillip Island and the excitement of Sepang’s penultimate round, it’d be worth the expense.
