Recently crowned 2016 MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez has a greater appreciation for his third MotoGP world title after crashing out of the past two grand prix’s.

The Repsol Honda rider initially crashed out of the Australian grand prix at Phillip Island and headed to Malaysia with intentions of making amends last weekend, although the Spaniard made a costly mistake at the Sepang Internatinal Circuit that saw him lose the front end at turn 11.

“At the beginning of the race I was riding quite comfortably in the leading group, trying to save the tyres for the end of the race,” Marquez explained. “But suddenly I crashed by losing the front at turn 11.”

“I thought I had a chance to finish on the podium here, but it was not to be, and it is better that this happens now that we already have the title. This experience will help us for next year and helps us appreciate the world championship even more.”

Despite the crash, Marquez rejoined the race in 15th position and was able to negotiate his way back to 11th by the completion of the final 19th lap.

The three-time MotoGP world champion has one more opportunity to finish the year on a strong note at Valencia’s season finale in Spain on 13 November.
