Bike: 2017 KTM 390 Duke

Duke gets comprehensive overhaul and Super Duke R-inspired styling.

An incredibly fun ride, combined with great practicality and hot styling, KTM has taken those aspects of the 390 Duke and made them even better on the 2017 model! Now equipped with a ride by wire system, TFT display and highlights like the optional KTM MY RIDE (and of course since forever with standard ABS brakes), the 390 Duke will go to the head of the learner sporstbike pack in 2017.

For the compact, lightweight single of the KTM 390 Duke, the Austrians pulled out all the stops right from the start, from the four-valve cylinder head with DLC-coated finger followers to the vertically stacked shafts of the transmission, to the wet-sump lubrication and the three-way catalytic converter.

In the latest model generation, a new ride-by-wire control system makes for a smoother and more refined response than ever while taking into account a multitude of sensor data about the current riding situation. As of 2017, the emissions of the 373.2cc engine conform to the limits of Euro 4.

The look and feel of the latest KTM 390 Duke is very clearly aimed at emulating the 1290 Super Duke R in
2017. The defining features of the even hotter styling with the distinctive KISKA look include the new frame, and here especially the rear subframe which is now bolted on and set apart in a contrasting color.

The new bodywork with newly developed, separate rider and passenger seats visually underscores the slammed, predatory stance with an aggressively rising rear. It is available in two different color and graphics schemes. On the level of ergonomics, one of the most notable changes is the fuel tank, enlarged from 11 to 13.4 litres.

Form and functional high-tech fuse in the new front with its LED headlight in front of the 390 Duke’s futuristic new dashboard with a full-color TFT display. The new, 43mm upside-down front forks have been developed by KTM in close cooperation with WP Suspensions. Their advanced open cartridge architecture is distinguished by stability and a fantastic response.

At the same time, reduced complexity contributes to easier maintenance while saving even more weight. The radial front caliper now clamps down on a Brembo brake disc enlarged from 300 to 320 millimeters. In addition, the clutch and brake levers are now ergonomically adjustable. As the first motorcycle of its class ever, the new 390
Duke is equipped with a multifunctional TFT display.

The new display unit offers versatile configuration options and adapts automatically to the brightness of the ambient light. Features like the engine speed read-out turning blue during warm-up or its color change to red when engine speed approaches the limit are signs of the utmost attention to detail.

In addition, the KTM MY RIDE with hands-free function and audio player is available as an option. Incoming call information and the music program are integrated directly into the TFT display and both functions are easily and conveniently operated via a menu switch on the handlebar.

The 2017 390 Duke is expected by mid-2017 with final specifications, colours and pricing being confirmed closer to then. See www.ktm.com.au for all the latest information.
