Triple MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo’s first day with the factory Ducati Team at Valencia’s 2017 test was a positive one, according to Ducati Corse sporting director Paolo Ciabatti.

Aboard a black-liveried GP16, Sunday’s race winner Lorenzo successfully switched to Ducati on Tuesday and clocked the third-fastest lap, 0.122s from Yamaha replacement Maverick Vinales at the top of the charts.

“It was a positive day,” Ciabatti said. “I think on one side we had the first contact between Jorge Lorenzo and the Ducati – it was very positive. We cannot comment too much, but I can only say that it was a good beginning. He concentrated on the 16 bike, so tomorrow he will probably be on the 17 bike.”

Lorenzo’s lap was just under a tenth quicker than 2017 Ducati teammate Andrea Dovizioso, who rode both the GP16 and GP17 for comparison on the first day of post-season testing at the Spanish circuit.
