Changes to the calendar of the 2016/2017 FIM Endurance World Championship will see the Portimao 12-hour in Portugal replaced by the Slovakia Ring 8-hour as the fourth round of the series on 24 June in 2017.

The Portimao round was initially scheduled for mid-March, however it has now been postponed to the 2017/2018 season to allow the circuit adequate time to prepare to host a major endurance race.

There was also a risk that the delayed arrival of the new homologated bikes for 2017 would handicap the preparations for a selection of teams.

The Slovakia Ring circuit is expected to draw in a large number of race fans, and is considered to be a headline event in the series.

The 2016/2017 season marks the first time the EWC has used the new format, which now spans from September to July in the following year.

2016/2017 FIM EWC calendar:
Rd1 – 7/18 September – Bol d’Or, France
Rd2 – 15/16 April – Le Mans, France
Rd3 – 20 May – Oschersleben, Germany
Rd4 – 24 June – Slovakia Ring, Slovakia
Rd5 – 30 July – Suzuka, Japan
