JD Racing Yamaha’s Daniel Falzon topped a frantic second practice session of the 2017 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship season this afternoon at Phillip Island.

Just 15 minutes in length, the session provided time for minimal laps, but it was privateer standout Falzon who led the way with a 1m33.656s – fastest of the weekend so far.

Behind Falzon came defending champion Troy Herfoss (Crankt Protein Honda Racing) at 1m33.971s and Friday’s fastest, Wayne Maxwell (Yamaha Racing Team) just outside of the 33s and 0.376s in arrears of Falzon.

Completing the top five was an impressive Beau Beaton (Racer’s Edge Performance/McMartin Racing Ducati) and second of the factory Yamahas, Glenn Allerton, while sixth through 10th came Bryan Staring (Crankt Protein Honda Racing), Robbie Bugden (Kawasaki BCperformance), Josh Waters (Team Suzuki Ecstar), Matt Walters (Swann Insurance/Repsol Kawasaki) and Cru Halliday (IPONE/YMF/YMI Yamaha).

Once Supersport hit the track directly afterwards, local charger Mark Chiodo (Triumph) maintained his advantage by a full second with a 1m36.463s from Mason Coote (Yamaha), Ted Collins (Suzuki), Ryan Taylor (Yamaha) and Nic Liminton (Yamaha).

An in-form Tom Edwards (Kawasaki) kept himself atop the Supersport 300 time-sheets earlier this morning at 1m51.781s, leading Reid Battye (Kawasaki), Scott Nicholson (Kawasaki), first of the Over 300s in Jack Passfield (Yamaha) and Jack Mahaffy (Yamaha).
