Defending ASBK champion third despite on-board camera working loose.
Crankt Protein Honda Racing’s Troy Herfoss was content with standing on the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) podium after encountering rare dramas at Phillip Island.
The on-board camera fitted to his CBR1000RR SP worked its way loose in the final race of the weekend, almost putting him out of contention altogether, and dropping him well down the order.
However 4-4-8 results in what was a weekend of attrition enabled him to join Daniel Falzon (Caterpillar JD Racing Yamaha) and Robbie Bugden (Kawasaki BCperformance) on the overall podium in third.
“Obviously in the last race we had a lot of bad luck with the camera falling off and hitting me in the leg – I thought the tyre was flying apart or something had broken off the bike,” Herfoss told CycleOnline.com.au. “That put me from the lead back to seventh or whatever, but I’m happy.
“The guys were flawless in the team and I made no mistakes, because a lot of the contenders created their own bad luck this weekend, so we leave here in a better position than we did last year and that’s not a bad thing. I’m just really annoyed with the camera incident, but third overall [is good] and we go to Wakefield, then Winton next.”
The result sees Herfoss enter his home round at Wakefield Park on 17-19 March 29 points in arrears of Falzon, but just as importantly, first of the factory-backed favourites in the title-race.
