Wakefield Park upgrades 'no advantage' for Superbikes

Performance-wise, Wakefield Park’s recent circuit upgrades make little difference for motorcycle competition, according to Goulburn’s defending Australian Superbike champion Troy Herfoss.

The kerbs between turns four and seven are visibly updated following track work completed in February to increase safety, but aren’t likely result in quicker lap-times.

“They changed the outside kerbs at the top of the hill, which we don’t go on,” Herfoss told CycleOnline.com.au. “The one down the hill is really big and flat, but it’s not something you use on a regular lap. It’s not like a grand prix-style kerb, so you can’t really use it for speed, so it’s definitely no advantage in terms of lap-times following the track changes.”

Crankt Protein Honda Racing’s Herfoss was on-track today during an untimed Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli test session, which will continue tomorrow.

It was a mixed day for hometown hero Herfoss – who now resides on the Gold Coast – after showing plenty of pace, but experiencing a high-speed crash at turn three, similar to his one on the race weekend during 2014.
