Radical new innovation breaks cover under lights at Losail Circuit.
Ducati’s anticipated new take on 2017 aerodynamics was finally uncovered during testing in Qatar on Saturday, dubbed the ‘hammerhead’ following the outlaw of winglets this season.
It’s been Ducati Corse at the head of aero development in recent seasons and it’s latest package used by Andrea Dovizioso at Losail Circuit stole the show on night two.
“In the evening I also did a couple of exits with the new fairing,” Dovizioso commented. “In my opinion our engineers have done a great job because it wasn’t easy to create a certain aerodynamic downforce without using the winglets.
“Now we are weighing up the pros and cons before we take a decision and also work out the tracks where this solution can give the biggest advantages.”
After posting the fastest lap on the opening night, Dovizioso dropped to 13th in the order on night two – his time set with the more conventional Desmosedici GP fairing.
On the opening evening, Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) also unveiled a solution that appeared to be more similar to the banned winglets of last year, however whether they’re final remains yet to be seen.
