Radar: 2017 ASBK Rd2 Wakefield Park

Unsung performers from Goulburn's second round of the year.

CycleOnline.com.au highlights three standout performances from the weekend’s second round of the 2017 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) presented by Motul Pirelli at Wakefield Park. Radar isn’t intended to be strictly about the winners, it’s about the unsung racers that we spot performing above expectations on any given race weekend.

Josh Hook (Kawasaki) – Superbike, sixth overall:
When former factory Honda rider and international regular Hook decided to race at Wakefield, he was always going to be up against it on an older generation, borrowed ZX-10R. He capitalised on the conditions in race one for third, taking full advantage of a decision to use slicks (he changed his own on the grid) on a drying track. P11 in race two meant he ended up sixth for the round.

Adam Senior (Yamaha) – Superbike, 12th overall:
It’s a massive commitment heading east from Western Australia for each ASBK round and Senior was rewarded for his efforts with a sixth in the mixed conditions of race one at Wakefield Park. As one of the riders who gambled for slicks, it paid off for Senior with a great position (and the final rider on the lead lap!). In the end it resulted in a 12th-place finish overall.

Aaiden Coote (Kawasaki) – Superbike, 14th overall:
In similar circumstances to Senior, Coote excelled in the opening race after making the right decision to ride on slicks in the quickly-drying conditions. A top five result in this type of field is massive, but unfortunately he went down in race two, remounted and crossed the line 21st. It was definitely a positive to see some new faces among the front at race’s end.
