Commissions deem penalty points option no longer necessary.
The MotoGP and World Superbike series have removes their complex penalty points systems, effective immediately during the 2017 world championship seasons.
MotoGP made the move first following a decision made by the Grand Prix Commission and then this week, the Superbike Commission mirrored the decision following last weekend’s Aragon round.
Penalty points – which were initially introduced for the 2013 grand prix season – have been deemed ‘no longer necessary’ due to the ‘many penalty options’ that race direction has in both MotoGP and WorldSBK.
