Rounds one and two of new-look championship contested.
The opening two rounds of the 2017 Swann Super Series took place at Sydney Motorsport Park over the weekend, with Brad Swallow (Kawasaki) and Lucus Vitale (Kawasaki) victorious in the Superbike ranks.
Revamped for this season, the Australasian Superbike Championship got underway on Saturday with Swallow winning the opening two races and Vitale taking out the third. That resulted in Swallow winning the overall from Vitale and Simon Galloway (Yamaha).
On Sunday it was Vitale who went 2-1-1 for the round win, ahead of race one winner Galloway and Brendan McIntyre (Suzuki). Swallow was fourth overall this time out, while Kawasaki BCperformance owner Kelvin Reilly returned to racing for fifth on both days.
The Supersport class was won by Giuseppe Scarcella (Kawasaki) on Saturday, before Sam Lambert (Yamaha) bounced back on Sunday with all three race wins. Lambert had won two of the three races in round one as well, but crashed out of race one in the opening laps.
This year’s Swann Super Series – including an assortment of support categories – will continue on 15-16 July at Queensland Raceway for rounds three and four of the condensed six-round series.
