Protest sees former champion regain the crown from Frost.
Kiwi veteran Tony Rees has officially been crowned the 2017 New Zealand Superbike Championship winner, Motorcycling New Zealand has confirmed this week.
Initially it was defending title-holder Sloan Frost (Suzuki) who was declared this year’s champion after confusion reigned at Hampton Down’s finals last month.
Rees had protested a points revision made following Taupo’s third round and was ultimately successful, awarding him the championship for the first time since 2005. It’s resulted in a historic Rees double, as talented son Damon Rees (Honda) took out the Supersport crown this season.
