Spaniard delivers pair of wins aboard all-new GSX-R1000.
Yoshimura Suzuki’s Toni Elias won both races to open his 2017 MotoAmerica Superbike Championship account at Circuit of the Americas over the weekend, alongside the MotoGP round in Texas.
On Saturday Elias beat his Yoshimura Suzuki teammate Roger Hayden by 1.7 seconds after Hayden’s last-lap attempt at victory came up short, while top Superstock 1000 finisher Bobby Fong (Quicksilver/Latus Motors Racing Kawasaki) was third.
Monster Energy/Yamalube/Yamaha defending champion Cameron Beaubier crashed out of the battle for the lead, remounted and finished eighth. Teammate Josh Hayes was even worse off after getting taken out by the crashing Kyle Wyman early in the race, remounting to finish 14th.
Come Sunday it was again Elias who topped proceedings, overcoming the challenge of Beaubier by 0.716s and Hayden directly behind. Australia’s David Anthony (Fly Racing/Motul/ADR Motorsports Kawasaki) went DNF/13 for the weekend.
