Yamaha Racing Team sweeps both Superbike races at round three.
Yamaha Racing Team’s Wayne Maxwell has claimed a spectacular clean-sweep of Winton’s third round of the 2017 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) presented by Motul Pirelli.
After edging to victory in race one earlier today, a superb second race for Maxwell saw him clinch the double and a new lap record of 1m20.688s to leap-frog to second in the championship.
The 2013 title-winner was unstoppable in the second 16-lap battle this afternoon, contested in cooler conditions, to win by 5.211s ahead of Troy Herfoss (Crankt Protein Honda Racing) and a further 3.6 over Cru Halliday (IPONE/YMF/YMI/Yamaha), who brought his privateer R1 home in P3.
Fourth was enough for Daniel Falzon (Caterpillar JD Racing Yamaha) to hold onto his points lead, while Robbie Bugden (Kawasaki BCperformance) recovered from a slow start for fifth, to beat Josh Hook (Racer’s Edge Performance/McMartin Racing Ducati), Herfoss’ teammate Bryan Staring – who was second in the early stages – Josh Waters (Team Suzuki Ecstar), Kyle Buckley (Kawasaki BCperformance) and Corey Turner (Yamaha).
The round went to Maxwell over Herfoss and Halliday, while in the standings Falzon leads Maxwell and Herfoss by nine, both tied for position with four rounds remaining.
Round four of the 2017 ASBK series will now move onto Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway in the Northern Territory on 7-9 July.
