Former Moto2 world champion maintains points lead.
Current champion Cameron Beaubier (Monster Energy/Yamalube/Yamaha) and Toni Elias (Yoshimura Suzuki) won a race apiece at Road Atlanta’s second round of the 2017 MotoAmerica Superbike Championship over the weekend.
Race one on Saturday went to the wire with defending two-time champion Beaubier taking his first victory of the season by a scant 0.287s over former Moto2 world champion Elias, with Josh Hayes (Monster Energy/Yamalube/Yamaha) third.
During Sunday’s second outing, with tensions on the rise between Beaubier and Elias after the scrap for the win a day earlier, it was the latter who edged Roger Hayden (Yoshimura Suzuki) by 0.308s, with Beaubier directly behind to complete the podium. David Anthony (Fly Racing/Motul/ADR Motorsports Kawasaki) was a non-finisher on Saturday, but recovered for ninth on Sunday.
Elias continues to lead the championship by 26 points after his third win in four races over Beaubier and Hayden, with those two tied for second. Round three is scheduled for Virginia International Raceway on 12-14 May.
