Verdict:
In hindsight, it was probably crazy to leave Maxwell out of our top three predictions in the pre-race Fan Guide, because he blitzed the field at Winton this time out. Pole, two wins, a circuit best lap and a new race lap record shows just how strong he was over the weekend and it appears he’s really come to grips with the Pirellis after switching from Dunlop prior to Wakefield. Herfoss was satisfied enough with the runner-up and used an assortment of tactics on Sunday, but it wasn’t enough to topple Maxwell – both are tied for second in the standings now. Still atop the points is Falzon, but at some stage he is going to have to start attacking again and taking more risks rather than simply managing his points lead. The speed is there, as he showed in race one with the quickest lap, however more wins will be vital as of Darwin. As for Halliday and Bugden, who both took race podiums and landed on equal points this round, a touch more out of them will see them winning races soon enough. Take a look at the riders who scored points yesterday and it’s a pretty incredible mixture of very capable riders!

Verdict:
In three different rounds we’ve seen three different winners, but it’s Collins who is establishing himself as the rider to beat in this championship. Pole and two wins was impressive, no doubt, but the record-breaking lap-times he produced on his way to those achievements is what really turned heads. It was a huge plus to see Chiodo register two consistent finishes to stand on the rostrum, while Lambert’s return to the class resulted in a podium finish. Opening round winner Coote is still P2 in the points, but just didn’t display front-running lap pace over the weekend, so it will be important for him to make improvements prior to Darwin’s fourth round. The ‘wildcard’ for the crown at this point still has to be Toparis in his rookie season, because he’s likely to gain strength when we get to the final few rounds especially.
