MCE British Superbike Championship title heavyweights Leon Haslam and Shane Byrne shared the victories in a dramatic third round of the season at Oulton Park.

Championship leader Haslam had taken the initial advantage with victory in race one, but whilst chasing his Be Wiser Ducati rival he had a huge crash in the second race after a collision with James Ellison.

Byrne had set the pole position, but in race one Haslam hit the front of the pack from the start of the race and eventually won ahead of Byrne and teammate Luke Mossey.

The battle for the Podium Points swung back in the favour of Byrne in race two as he claimed his first win of the season at Oulton Park, as Haslam dramatically crashed out after clipping Ellison, who suffered a technical issue.

Behind Byrne came his teammate Glenn Irwin, while after finishing an encouraging fourth in race one, Australia’s Jason O’Halloran rode to his first podium on the new CBR1000RR in third.

Of the other Aussies in the field, Josh Brookes (Anvil Hire Yamaha) was seventh in the opening encounter, before improving a spot to sixth in race two. Billy McConnell (Quattro Plant FS-3 Kawasaki) took 12-10 finishes.

In the Supersport races won by Yamaha’s Tarran Mackenzie, Benjamin Currie (Gearlink Kawasaki) claimed 6-5 results, while in the Superstock 1000 class Brayden Elliott (CF Motorsport Yamaha) crashed out of P8 on the penultimate lap.

There was much to celebrate for former Moto3 front-runner Arthur Sissis in Superstock 600, taking advantage of his tyre selection to win for Moto-Breakers Kawasaki. Levi Day also starred in the Ducati TriOptions Cup, going 5-3.

Next stop for the British Superbike Championship following a lengthy break will be Knockhill on 16-18 June.
