Radar: 2017 ASBK Rd3 Winton

Unsung performers from Victoria's third round of the season.

CycleOnline.com.au highlights three standout performances from the weekend’s third round of the 2017 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) presented by Motul Pirelli at Winton. Radar isn’t intended to be strictly about the winners, it’s about the unsung racers that we spot performing above expectations on any given race weekend.

Corey Turner (Yamaha) – Superbike, ninth overall:
The performance of Turner on his private R1 turned plenty of heads on Sunday, putting it inside the top 10 at the conclusion of both races, with 10th in races one and two. That placed him ninth overall for the weekend and we can see him maintaining that type of form as the rounds roll on.

Michael Blair (Gosford Classic Car Museum/IPONE/YMI/Yamaha) – Superbike, 11th overall:
We had high hopes going into the season for Blair on his private R1 and at Winton we started to see more of what he’s capable of. After qualifying 14th, he moved forward to register an inspiring ninth in race one and 12th in the second, which put him P11 for the round. Come the back-half of the season he is one who should be up inside the top 10.

Alex Phillis (Arnold’s Fruit Market/Apex Civil/Helicraft Racing Yamaha) – Superbike, 13th overall:
It’s always been clear that Phillis has great capabilities and at Winton, first time on a Yamaha for this season, he showed just how much potential he had by slotting the R1 into seventh on the grid. Despite crashing, he soldiered to 13th in race one, then was 11th in race two. That put him P13 overall and his next showing is due for Morgan Park.
