Australian MotoGP ace satisfied with progress made in the wet.
Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS Honda’s Jack Miller has completed a wet weather test with Michelin at Valencia, Spain, ahead of this weekend’s Le Mans round of the MotoGP championship.
Michelin had water trucks on-hand to simulate rain throughout the test and the Australian – who won Assen’s rain-soaked round last season – said it was a positive way to carry out tyre development.
“So far, so good,” Miller said. “You know, wet weather testing is always a little bit slower, but it’s a lot of fun out there. Track conditions are really good, I’m really surprised at how well the water trucks and everything from Michelin are, for them to bring them here for us is very professional. It turned out to be a really, really good day. I’ve tried many different compounds and we’ve been very busy changing tyres, but all in all I have a good feeling with the majority of the tyres – some better than others.
“I think we’ve found a direction for what’s to come later on in the season in terms of wet tyres, but for now we’re really happy. We’re working the whole time between my crew and Michelin on the feedback of each tyre, also what are the positives and what are the negatives. Each tyre has something different and the options that they brought here are all working well at this track, so we have to look at the compounds and everything for colder tracks, such as Assen. It’s nice to have these laps and get ready for Le Mans, where it very well could be wet!”
Miller has enjoyed a strong start to his 2017 campaign, finishing inside the top 10 throughout the opening three rounds before being taken out of Jerez, however the upcoming French round has been a challenging one for him in recent seasons, after crashing out during the past two years.
