Just 0.153s of a second separated the top three finishers in Saturday’s MotoAmerica Superbike race at Road America with Monster Energy/Yamalube/Yamaha Factory Racing’s Cameron Beaubier taking victory over Yoshimura Suzuki’s Toni Elias and Roger Hayden.

When the flag dropped, it was Hayden in the lead until Beaubier took a turn at the front on the seventh of 13 laps. Elias led for the first time on the 10th lap and he led from there until the final corner when Beaubier snuck up the inside.

From there it was the high-speed run up the hill to the checkered flag and Beaubier got there first, albeit by just .005 of a second. Hayden was a shadow third. For defending two-time MotoAmerica Superbike champion Beaubier this win was number two on the season and the 21st Superbike win of his career.

Yoshimura Suzuki’s Elias won the red-flag shortened Superbike race on Sunday at Road America, the Spaniard topping his teammate Hayden by 0.131s when the race was stopped for a second time because of oil on the racing line in turn one.

The race at the front was hot and heavy with Elias and Hayden going at it at the front while Beaubier fought through from a bad start to join them. The shortened eight-lap race looked set to be a thriller to the end, but ended up with an anticlimactic finish when Josh Herrin’s HelmetSounds/Western Services/Meen Motorsports Yamaha blew up on the entrance to turn one. That brought a premature end to the race.

Since Elias had led across the line the lap of the incident, he was awarded victory by 0.131s of a second over Hayden with Beaubier just 0.854s of a second adrift in third place. Former Moto2 world champion Elias leads the points by 14 over Beaubier.

Australia’s David Anthony rode his Superstock specification Fly Racing/Motul/ADR Motorsports Kawasaki to 13th in the opening race and then claimed 12th in race two.
