Recent performances will potentially see him remain at Marc VDS.
Queenslander Jack Miller is in the frame to retain his seat at Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS for 2018, currently in the final term of a three-year Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) contract.
Miller stunned when he moved directly from Moto3 to MotoGP in 2015, spending a season with LCR before transferring across to Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS for the final two years of his deal.
“Jack’s plan was always for three years,” HRC team principal Livio Suppo told Crash.net. “He needs to show that he has made a step and so far this season he has done a good job. If he keeps showing good performance and an upward curve then we would really like to see him on a Honda next year.”
Last weekend at Mugello was one of the more difficult rounds of the season for Miller, scoring a single point in 15th position after struggling with the front-end. He missed the recent Catalunya test due to a hand injury sustained in France.
“Scoring a point today is bonus considering from the start of the weekend I just didn’t feel on the pace with a lack of front grip and confidence,” Miller admitted. “But it was a solid result with no crashes and I did the best I could in the race. Now I’m looking forward to doing the Barcelona race next weekend and being fit for the second of the back-to-back races.”
Miller is now 12th in the world championship standings despite being taken out by Alvaro Bautista at Jerez, finishing inside the top 10 on four out of six races to date this season. The high point of his premier class career to date is last year’s heroic victory at Assen in the mixed conditions.
