Spaniard extends championship lead at halfway point.
Yoshimura Suzuki’s Toni Elias did the MotoAmerica Superbike double at Utah Motorsports Campus over the weekend, leading teammate Roger Hayden on both occasions in the pair of premier class races.
Elias came from behind to top the opening day ahead of teammate Hayden and Josh Hayes (Monster Energy/Yamalube/Yamaha Factory Racing) on Saturday, as defending champion Cameron Beaubier crashed out.
Come Sunday it was again Elias who was victorious, once again ahead of Hayden in a GSX-R1000 1-2 result, while Monster Energy/Yamalube/Yamaha Factory Racing’s Beaubier bounced back to complete the podium. Fly Racing/Motul/ADR Motorsports Kawasaki rider David Anthony went 12-13 for the weekend.
After five of 10 rounds and 20 races this season, former Moto2 world champion Elias now leads the championship by 30 points over Hayden, while Beaubier currently sits third overall.
