Next Gen Motorsports BMW rookie Troy Guenther faces a race against time to be fit for the Hidden Valley round of the 2017 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) presented by Motul Pirelli on 7-9 July.

Guenther, 18, crashed heavily last weekend while preparing for the upcoming ASBK round in the Top End, sustaining soft tissue injuries in the incident according to team manager Wayne Hepburn.

“We were having a strong weekend and Troy had sensational speed on the Pirellis,” Hepburn said. “During the Sunday morning warm-up, Troy was passing another rider, when all of a sudden that rider’s bike collided with Troy. Our BMW pretty much snapped in half under the impact and also caught fire!

“Troy is going to be fine. Hopefully he will be ready to go for the upcoming round at Hidden Valley, it all depends on how fast he recovers. He simply sustained several soft tissue injuries and hurt his leg slightly.

“Soft tissue injuries do take time to heal, so my only concern is whether he will have the strength in his leg to ride a Superbike in the next two weeks. Apart from that he was very lucky, as it was one of the biggest crashes I’ve ever seen.”

After winning the Australian Supersport Championship last year aboard a Yamaha, Guenther was one of multiple capable rookies that moved up to the premier class for the 2017 season. He currently sits 13th in the standings following the opening three rounds.
